Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information WithoutWatermark (withoutwatermark.net) handles when you use it, why, and for how long. The site is run by Gene Luke (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about it, email [email protected].
The short version
- You don’t need an account, and we don’t ask for your name.
- When you paste a link, our server uses it to fetch the post from the site it came from.
- Files you download are stored on our server only while you download them and are deleted within 60 minutes.
- The Watermark Remover works on your own device. Your video isn’t uploaded to us.
- We don’t sell your information.
What we collect and why
Links you paste
When you paste a link and press Download, the link is sent to our server. Our server uses it to read the post from the site it belongs to, such as TikTok or Instagram, and to list the files you can save. We keep the link and the details we read (such as the title, the creator’s name, the thumbnail address and the available qualities) for up to 60 minutes, so the same request is faster if it is made again. Then they are deleted.
Files you download
To give you a file, our server saves a temporary copy and sends it to your browser. Each copy is deleted within 60 minutes. We don’t watch, edit or keep these files.
Your IP address and technical details
Like almost every website, our server records basic details about each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, and your browser type. We use them to keep the site working, to find and fix errors, and to protect the site from abuse. These logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted.
To stop any one visitor from overloading the site, we limit how many downloads can be made from the same IP address each hour. For this, we store a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for up to one hour.
Videos you open in the Watermark Remover
The Watermark Remover processes your video in your own browser. The video stays on your device and isn’t sent to us.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply and to deal with your request.
Cookies and similar technology
Our site doesn’t set cookies for visitors. If you switch between light and dark mode, your browser remembers the choice on your device (in local storage), and it isn’t sent to us. WordPress sets its own cookies only if you log in to the site or leave a comment.
Other sites you connect to through ours
When we show a preview of a post, the thumbnail image loads directly from the site the post came from. That site can see your IP address and that your browser requested the image, and handles it under its own privacy policy.
When our server fetches a post, it connects to that site itself, so the site sees our server’s address, not yours.
Advertising and analytics
We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies at the moment. If we add them, we will update this policy before they go live, name the companies involved, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising.
How long we keep information
- Links you paste and the details we read from them: up to 60 minutes.
- Files prepared for download: deleted within 60 minutes.
- Scrambled IP address used for download limits: up to one hour.
- Server logs: a limited time, then deleted.
- Emails: as long as needed to deal with your request.
Legal basis for visitors in the EU and UK
We process the information above because it is necessary to provide the service you ask for, and because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working. Where the law requires consent, such as for advertising cookies, we will ask for it first.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your personal information, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how we use it, or to restrict its use. California residents have the right to know what we collect and to ask us to delete it. We don’t sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in California law. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email [email protected]. Because we keep very little and delete it quickly, we may no longer hold anything about you by the time you ask.
Children
The site isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Security and international transfers
The site uses HTTPS to protect information as it travels between your browser and our server. Our server may be in a different country from yours, so your information may be processed outside your country. We protect it as this policy describes wherever it is processed.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
